Pet owners know that hair removal from carpeting can become a never-ending process. The tufted structure of the carpet literally attracts hairs that eventually penetrate deep into the base. An ordinary vacuum cleaner does not always cope with this task, especially if the hair is short and stiff or, on the contrary, too soft and fine. To return the interior to cleanliness and freshness, it is worth using a comprehensive approach and a few effective tricks.
Effective dry cleaning tools
Before you can wet clean, you must remove the bulk of the contaminants. There are several handy tools that work more effectively than standard vacuum cleaner attachments.
-
Rubber glove. An ordinary household glove creates static electricity. If you run your hand over the surface of the carpet, the wool rolls up into clumps that are easy to collect.
-
Window washer with rubber squeegee. This is one of the fastest ways to do it. The rubber blade fits snugly against the pile and pulls out stuck hairs even from dense carpeting.
-
Sticky roller or duct tape. Suitable for localized cleaning of small areas. The wide painter’s tape is great for small lint that the vacuum cleaner didn’t pick up.
-
Special turbo brush. The rotating shaft of this accessory forcibly picks up the hair and sends it to the dust collector, which saves a lot of time.
Deep cleaning and odor removal
When the visible part of the hair has been removed, it is important to extract the smallest particles and get rid of the specific animal odor. For this purpose, you can use available household products.
-
Baking soda. Spread baking soda evenly over the carpet and leave it on for 20 minutes. It not only absorbs odors, but also breaks the static bond between the pile and the wool, making the final cleaning easier.
-
Laundry Conditioner. Mix a little conditioner with water in a sprayer and lightly moisten the surface. This will soften the lint, after which animal hair will be much easier to remove.
Prevention of hair accumulation
To keep your carpet cleaner longer, it’s important to maintain regularity in your pet and home care. Regular combing of the cat or dog with special furminators reduces the amount of hairs falling out by 80 to 90 percent. It is also recommended to give your carpet a quick cleaning with a rubber brush at least twice a week, without waiting for the hair to become densely embedded in the structure of the product. A clean carpet without pet traces makes the atmosphere in the house healthier and cozier.
