Accidentally spilled antiseptic is instantly absorbed into the fibers of the fabric, leaving noticeable dark brown marks. However, you should not rush to throw away your favorite thing or reupholster the sofa. Iodine stains are considered complex, but they have a unique property – the ability to evaporate and react with simple household products found in every kitchen.
The most effective and affordable way to combat such pollution is the usual potato starch. When it comes into contact with iodine, it causes a chemical reaction that causes the stain to turn blue, which is then easily washed off with cool water. To achieve the result, it is enough to generously sprinkle the moistened area with powder or apply a cut of raw potato to it for several hours.
If light-colored fabric is damaged, it will come to the rescue ammonia. It is necessary to dissolve a teaspoon of alcohol in a glass of water and carefully treat the edges of the stain, gradually moving towards the center. This will prevent streaks from occurring. Also shows excellent results baking soda in combination with vinegar: their interaction literally pushes the dye molecules out of the structure of the material.
For delicate surfaces and thick fabrics, the following methods can be used:
-
Wiping the mark with medical alcohol or strong clear alcohol.
-
Using a solution of sodium hyposulfite, which instantly discolors the antiseptic.
-
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, under which iodine gradually fades and disappears on its own.
-
The use of hydrogen peroxide, which is suitable for white cotton products.
It is important to remember that when working with any cleaner, you should not use hot water, as it can cook the stain, making it almost impossible to remove. Before starting the procedure, it is worth testing the selected product on an inconspicuous area of the material to ensure that the color and texture are preserved. The right approach allows you to completely restore the appearance of the product without going to dry cleaning.
Timely treatment of fresh contamination guarantees complete removal of unwanted traces.
