Glue stains often cause panic, especially if it is fast-drying Moment or superglue. It seems that the thing is hopelessly damaged, but the situation is often saved by available means and knowledge of chemistry. The main rule of success is reaction speedsince old stains are always more difficult to remove.
The fight against superglue and the “Moment”
The basis of these compositions is cyanoacrylate, which polymerizes instantly. Regular washing is powerless here, so you need solvents. One of the most effective pharmaceutical remedies is considered Dimexide. It is enough to moisten a cotton pad with it, apply it to the stain for 15–20 minutes, and the hard crust will begin to soften, turning into jelly.
Suitable for rough fabrics such as denim acetone or nail polish remover. It is important to carefully handle the contamination from the edges to the center so as not to smear the composition even more. If glue gets on your hands, the usual vegetable oil or greasy cream, which destroy the adhesion of the glue to the skin.
Removing PVA and office glue
These types of glue are water-based, making them much easier to remove. A fresh stain can be easily removed under the spray warm water with laundry soap. If the mark has already dried, it can be wiped with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or vinegar. These liquids quickly dissolve the binding components without damaging the structure of most tissues.
Temperature methods of influence
Sometimes chemistry is not required if you use the physical properties of the material. Many adhesives become brittle in the cold. Place the damaged item in freezer for a couple of hours, then carefully scrape off the frozen glue with the blunt side of a knife.
There is also a reverse way – heating. Place a clean sheet of paper or white cotton cloth over the stain and iron it with a hot iron. The glue will begin to melt and soak into the paper. This method requires caution, especially on synthetics, which can melt along with the dirt.
Traces of stickers and tape
The sticky layer remaining after labels can be easily removed with oils. Apply essential oil lemon or eucalyptus onto a cotton pad and wipe the surface. Special anti-adhesive sprays sold in hardware stores also work well. For glass and ceramic surfaces, the usual sodamixed with water to form a paste.
Always test the product you choose on an inconspicuous area of the product to ensure it does not attack paint or fibers.
